Why Choose European Mosaic Tile?

Mosaic tile offers something no other format can — intricate pattern, texture, and detail at a human scale. A single mosaic sheet behind a kitchen range or in a shower niche can completely transform the feel of a space, adding a level of craftsmanship and visual interest that plain field tile simply cannot replicate. Our European mosaic tile collection is sourced from manufacturers who specialize in small-format tile production, giving you access to genuine design quality in every sheet.

Mosaic tile by material:

  • Glass mosaic tile — the most popular choice for kitchen backsplashes and shower walls; highly reflective, non-porous, and available in iridescent, frosted, and solid color finishes
  • Stone mosaic tile — marble, travertine, and natural stone in small format for a warm, organic look on bathroom floors and feature walls; requires sealing
  • Ceramic mosaic tile — versatile and cost-effective, available in the widest range of colors and patterns; ideal for bathroom walls and decorative borders
  • Metal and mixed material mosaic — combines glass, stone, and metal for a high-end, textured effect perfect for feature walls and range backsplashes

Most popular mosaic tile applications:

  • Kitchen backsplash — glass and ceramic mosaics catch the light and add depth behind cooktops and ranges
  • Shower floor — small format mosaic conforms naturally to the slope and provides excellent slip resistance
  • Shower niche and feature wall — a contrasting mosaic accent turns a functional space into a design moment
  • Bathroom floor — penny round and hexagon mosaics create classic, heritage-inspired bathroom floors
  • Decorative borders — frame larger format field tile with a mosaic border for a custom, layered look

All mosaic tiles in our collection are available on mesh-mounted 12×12 sheets for straightforward installation.

FAQ

What is mosaic tile used for?

Mosaic tile is used for backsplashes, shower walls and floors, accent walls, bathroom floors, pool surrounds, and decorative borders. Its small individual tile size makes it ideal for curved surfaces and sloped shower floors where larger tiles can't conform to changes in direction. Glass mosaic is particularly popular for backsplashes and wet areas thanks to its non-porous surface and light-reflective qualities.

How is mosaic tile installed?

Most mosaic tile comes mounted on 12×12 mesh backing sheets which hold the individual tiles in pattern and spacing. Apply thinset to the substrate, press the mesh sheet into place, and use a grout float to press it firmly. The mesh sheet can be cut with scissors to fit any space, and individual tiles can be removed from the mesh for edge cuts and tight spaces.

What is the best mosaic tile for a shower floor?

A small format porcelain or natural stone mosaic in a 1×1 or 2×2 size is ideal for shower floors. The increased number of grout joints provides better grip and the small tile size conforms easily to the sloped floor. Glass mosaic can be slippery when wet and is better suited for shower walls and niches. Look for tiles with a slip resistance rating of at least R10 for wet shower floors.

Can I use glass mosaic tile in a shower?

Glass mosaic tile is an excellent choice for shower walls, niches, and accent areas. It is non-porous, highly water-resistant, and adds beautiful light reflection in enclosed spaces. For shower floors, choose a textured or frosted glass mosaic rated for floor use. Most glass mosaics are recommended for wall use only - check individual product pages for floor suitability.

How do I clean mosaic tile grout?

Seal grout after installation with a penetrating grout sealer and reseal annually in high-use areas. For regular cleaning, a pH-neutral tile cleaner and a soft brush is sufficient. For stubborn stains, a grout-specific oxygen bleach cleaner is effective without damaging the tile. Avoid vinegar or acidic cleaners on natural stone mosaics as these can etch the surface.
