Why Choose European Backsplash Tile?

The backsplash is the most visible design surface in your kitchen — it's at eye level, it frames your cooktop and countertops, and it sets the tone for the entire space. Getting it right matters. Our European backsplash tile collection is curated for both design quality and practical performance — every tile in the range is easy to wipe clean, moisture and heat resistant, and built to look as good in five years as it does on day one.

Backsplash tile by style:

  • Classic kitchen backsplashsubway tile in 3×6 or elongated 4×12 formats, in white, cream, or soft grey with a contrasting grout for a timeless, high-contrast look
  • Modern kitchen backsplash — large format porcelain panels or concrete look tile for a seamless, minimal surface with almost no grout lines
  • Statement backsplashmosaic tile, glass tile, or decorative tile behind the range or cooktop as a focal point, with a simpler tile on the remaining walls
  • Transitional backsplashhexagon tile or chevron tile in neutral tones that bridge classic and contemporary styles

How to choose the right backsplash tile:

The key is working with your countertop, not against it. A busy countertop — marble look, granite, or quartz with movement — pairs best with a simple, understated backsplash. A clean solid-color countertop gives you the freedom to introduce pattern, texture, and color through the tile. Always order samples and view them together in your kitchen lighting before committing to a full order.

FAQ

What is the most popular kitchen backsplash tile?

Subway tile remains the most widely used kitchen backsplash option due to its versatility, affordability, and timeless aesthetic. Glass mosaic tiles are the second most popular choice, prized for their light-reflective properties and the depth they add to kitchen walls. Large format porcelain panels have grown rapidly in popularity for contemporary and minimal kitchens where a nearly seamless surface is desired.

How do I choose a backsplash tile that works with my countertop?

The key is visual contrast and material balance. If your countertop has a lot of movement like marble or granite, choose a more subdued backsplash to avoid visual competition. If your countertop is a clean solid color, the backsplash is your opportunity to introduce pattern, texture, or color. Always order samples of both and view them together in your actual kitchen lighting before committing.

How much backsplash tile do I need?

Measure the length of each section of wall that will be tiled, then multiply by the height of the backsplash - typically 18" between countertop and cabinet, or to ceiling if you have open shelving. Subtract any windows or appliances. Add 10% overage for standard installations, or 15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns. Most backsplash projects fall between 15 and 40 square feet.

Can I install backsplash tile myself?

Yes - a kitchen backsplash is one of the best tile projects for a confident DIYer. The surface area is manageable, the substrate is typically stable, and the cuts are mostly simple edge cuts. Mesh-mounted mosaic sheets make installation particularly straightforward. Order a sample first, watch a few installation videos, and you'll be well prepared.

Do I need to seal my backsplash tile?

Most porcelain and ceramic backsplash tiles do not need sealing - they are non-porous and stain-resistant on their own. Natural stone and unglazed ceramic are exceptions and should be sealed before grouting. Grout should always be sealed after installation to prevent staining from kitchen splatter and oils. Use a penetrating grout sealer and reapply every 1-2 years in kitchen environments.
